When it comes to inspiring acts of courage, Amy Al Hashlamon, a resident of Sderot, Israel has set an admirable example. Out of desperation to protect her family from a Hamas missile attack, she took an incredibly brave action: she barricaded her safe room door with a vacuum cleaner and a rolling pin.
As reported by the Jerusalem Post, during Operation Guardian of the Walls, which took place from May 7 to May 21, 2021; Ms. Hashlamon heard a missile warning siren and quickly rounded up her family and ran for her safe room. She then heard someone banging on the door and yelling loudly. A horrified Ms. Hashlamon realized that it was an armed Hamas terrorist attempting to break into her safe room that would have been filled with her and her children.
In a moment of clarity, she realized that something heavy had to be wedged against the door to keep the terrorist out. She grabbed a vacuum cleaner and a heavy rolling pin and blocked the door.
Thanks to her ingenuity and courage, she managed to buy enough time for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to arrive and take control of the situation. Ms. Haslamon and her family were safe.
This story not only demonstrates Ms. Hashlamon’s incredible courage, but also the strength of the human spirit. It serves as a reminder that with a bit of ingenuity and a lot of determination, anything is possible when it comes to protecting one’s family and home.
The courage and resourcefulness of Ms. Hashlamon should be celebrated and her story should be shared among people around the world so that her example of courage and strength can be an inspiration for us all.
