Stop the Diddy Dilemma: Diageo Takes New Action on Rape Claims in Ad Ban Battle

An article recently published by Godzillanewz.com claims Diageo, the parent company of the Jose Cuervo tequila brand, is pushing for the removal of Diddy from any potential tequila-related advertisements after allegations of rape had resurfaced from an archival recording.

The allegations were first brought to light in 2018 when a recording of a woman claiming Diddy had raped her at some point in the early ’90s. In the Godzillanewz.com article, a Diageo spokesperson is reported as saying, “It is not appropriate for Mr. Combs to appear in advertising for the Tequila brand.”

The recording of the rape allegation was part of a documentary which detailed Diddy’s past as a drug dealer prior to his foray into the entertainment business. The woman, speaking on condition of anonymity, claims that Diddy raped her after promising her a job. She also claims that the incident was covered up and that she was forced to keep silent.

The registered trademark for Diddy’s potential tequila brand, “David Bottles Tequila,” has been sitting inactive since it was first created in 2016. Even if Diddy were to be removed from any potential future advertisements, the trademark still remained with the rap mogul.

Diageo has yet to take any official action and Diddy has not responded to the allegations. While the rape allegations have not been proven, it appears Diageo has taken a “better safe than sorry” approach. Only time will tell if Diddy will remain on the sidelines or make a return to the tequila-related promotions.
