As the gun control debate grows more heated across the United States, many Americans are opting to purchase firearms. However, the types of people buying guns may surprise you.
For some Americans, the already volatile political climate has made the decision to buy a gun an easy one. As discourse regarding gun control ramps up on the state and national levels, many people feel uneasy and fear for the safety of their families. While some people have always owned firearms for recreational and sporting purposes, other Americans, particularly older generations, have began making their first gun purchases because of the aforementioned unrest and fearfulness.
In addition to purchases being made by members of the Baby Boomer and Greatest Generation, gun sales are being driven by Millennials and Generation Z. These two age groups are due to the combination of video games and streaming services that often times contain gun related content and narratives. For many, this content has sparked a level of interest in firearms that’s leading them to make their first gun purchases.
Overall, Americans are buying guns; and although the individuals are likely not who you’d expect, their reasons for purchase are often the same regardless of age. Americans are choosing to purchase firearms in order to feel more safe in the current tumultuous environment as well as to explore a hobby they’ve recently become interested in.
