In what is sure to be a highly-anticipated event, Hunter Biden has come forward and offered to testify before a House committee regarding his past business dealings. For weeks, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden has been at the center of political controversy surrounding his involvement in a Ukrainian gas company.
Despite having denied any wrongdoing, and with his father being the current front runner in the 2020 elections, the White House and House committee have been quick to call for his testimony. Up to this point, though, Hunter has only offered to allow private interviews and provide written answers to their questions.
Now, a letter from Hunter’s legal team from today has stated that he is willing to testify in a public forum. His attorneys have asked that the committee recognize Hunter’s constitutional rights, including his fifth amendment privilege against self-incrimination.
However, publicly testifying won’t be an easy feat for Hunter. With such high stakes and a plethora of political adversaries, the pressure could be immense. Only time will tell if Hunter will be able to handle the situation as gracefully as his father would handle it.
Regardless, it is clear that those involved – including the Biden team and the committee – have much to gain by seeing the situation concluded as swiftly as possible. It’s been a wild ride so far and the hearing should be another fascinating chapter in this already interesting story.
